RCDD® Overview

A Professional Designation of Superior Design Expertise

Information Transport Systems (ITS) professionals pursing excellence within the industry should consider becoming a Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD).

Those awarded the RCDD designation have demonstrated expertise in the design, implementation, and integration of information transport systems and related infrastructure.

BICSI ITS distribution design courses serve as a career path for those seeking expertise in this area. Several design courses are recommended for candidates preparing to take the RCDD examination.

The RCDD status conveys instant advantages over the competition:

A professional designation of excellence

A highly regarded status recognized and mandated by many private and state organizations.

A noted mark of design expertise valued internationally.

An indication of experience and knowledge known throughout the ITS industry.

Current BICSI members with a minimum of two years’ experience in distribution design are urged to apply to sit for the RCDD exam. Those passing the exam will become registered with the RCDD designation, valid for three calendar years. The RCDD qualification may be extended for additional three-year periods.

For additional information or for an RCDD application, visit BICSI’s Web site at www.bicsi.org. Or call BICSI at 800-242-7405 (USA/Canada toll free) or +1 813-979-1991.

RCDD/NTS Specialty

A Designation of Superior NTS (Network Transport Systems) Design Expertise

Rapid growth and technological advancements have created high demand for those who are able to demonstrate their expertise in network transport systems. Many BICSI data distribution design courses serve as a career path for those pursuing excellence in NTS design. Several of these courses are recommended for candidates preparing to take the RCDD/NTS Specialist examination.

The NTS Specialty is available only to current BICSI members who possess the RCDD designation and have a minimum of two years of network and internetworking design experience. Industry-wide, RCDDs are recognized as having superior design expertise. With that foundation, those achieving the NTS Specialty designation possess outstanding NTS design qualities that give them significant competitive recognition.

RCDD/NTS Specialty candidates are rigorously tested on their ability to understand and apply a vast collection of NTS technology and design information. Those awarded the NTS designation will demonstrate knowledge in the design of vendor neutral network transport systems within a personal area network (PAN), building/local area network (LAN), campus area network (CAN), metropolitan area network (MAN), or wide area network (WAN) configuration. This design experience will include proficiencies in Fast, Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernets, switching and virtual LANS, intranetworking and internetworking, network storage, network security, network management, network applications (e.g., VoIP), and wireless networks.

RCDD/OSP Specialty

A Designation of Superior Customer-Owned Outside Plant (CO-OSP)

Design Expertise

In response to industry and member demand, BICSI has established a registration program for those who are able to demonstrate proficiency in CO-OSP design.

The OSP designation is available only to current BICSI members who possess the RCDD designation, and have a minimum of two years OSP experience. Industry-wide, RCDDs are recognized as having ITS design expertise. With that foundation, those achieving the OSP designation also possess outstanding OSP knowledge that will give them significant competitive recognition.

RCDD/OSP Specialty candidates are rigorously tested on their ability to understand and apply a vast collection of OSP technology and design information. Those awarded the OSP designation will demonstrate knowledge and expertise in OSP right-of-way and route design; OSP space design (maintenance holes, ducts, vaults); underground, direct-buried, and aerial plant design; OSP cabling hardware; and OSP grounding, bonding, and electrical protection systems.
